WILLMAR - Ridgewater's women's basketball team opened up conference play with a nearly wire-to-wire victory over Minnesota State-Fergus Falls with a 65-50 scoreline Wednesday night.
The game began with a 9-0 Ridgewater run and that set the tone for the home team and its powerful defense. The Spartans tied it back up at 14 with a 12-0 run of their own but an Abby Oberg layup put the Warriors permanently in the lead.
Oberg joined Heidi Sellmann with 14 points but it was sharpshooter Mariah Adams who led all scorers with 21 points. The former New London-Spicer guard hit six of her 12 3-point attempts and provided good point defense for the Warriors.
In addition to her 14 points, Sellmann added a game-high 12 rebounds to help guide her team to a narrow 37-36 rebounding advantage. On the other end of the court, former Hancock standout Kassandra Algarate pulled in 10 rebounds of her own and added eight points and five assists for M State. Samantha Lupkes scored a team-high 17 points.
