State Baseball: Belle Plaine shuts down ACGC

Unseeded Tigers knock off third-seeded Falcons in Class AA quarterfinals in St. Cloud.

ST. CLOUD— The Belle Plaine Tigers beat the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons in the state Class AA baseball tournament Tuesday night.

Belle Plaine surprised third-seeded ACGC 2-0 in the quarterfinals at Dick Putz Field. It was ACGC's first state appearance since 2001.

Belle Plaine (19-4) plays Aitkin (22-5) at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the state semifinals at Putz. Aitkin surprised second-seeded Albany (22-4) 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

In other Class AA quarterfinal games, No. 1 Glencoe-Silver Lake (24-3) beat St. Agnes 13-0 and No. 5 Plainview-Elgin-Millville defeated No. 4 Wadena-Deer Creek (25-4) 3-1. Glencoe-Silver Lake and P-E-M play at noon Wednesday in other AA semifinal at Putz.

The AA state championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Target Field in Minneapolis.
