Stingers end skid with pair of weekend wins

In amateur ball, Willmar falls to Milroy in 14-inning marathon

WILLMAR - A couple of home games seem to be the right medicine for the Willmar Stingers.

The Stingers started the second half of the Northwoods League season with three-straight losses -- they lost four in a row, overall.

But Willmar righted its ship with a 7-2 win over St. Cloud on Saturday, then took the first game of a two-game, home-and-home set with Mankato 8-2 at Bill Taunton Stadium.

On Sunday, Brandon Bohning homered and drove in three runs and Sam Baier had two hits, including a double, and he and Justin King, Kevin Saenz and Kaden Fowler all drove in runs.

Stingers starter Christopher Peres was strong in his first start of the season after making seven relief appearances. He worked seven innings, allowing a run on four hits and striking out five.

The Stingers travel to Mankato for a 6:35 p.m. game on Monday before hosting Duluth for a pair of 7:05 p.m. games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
