U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered North Dakota's U.S. attorney, Mac Schneider, to stop pursuing capital punishment for the slaying of the 22-year-old University of North Dakota student.
The Emergency Operations Center in Crookston opened around 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, and sandbagging operations started around noon. Since then, volunteers have been working to fill and pile sandbags. More volunteers are needed.
The Diocese of Crookston could not confirm that Grundhaus had engaged in behavior considered sexual abuse under canon or civil law, but did maintain that he had acted inappropriately with a young man.
