Walkers of all ages cross the starting line of the Alzheimer's Walk Saturday morning at Robbins Island in Willmar. Many sported their purple colors in honor of a loved one lost to Alzheimer's or dementia. The seventh annual event reportedly drew a record number of walkers with well over 550 participants and 39 teams. The walk brought in $54,000 on a goal of $68,000, according to organizers. People can still make a donation at and search Willmar, through December 31.

On a rare blue-sky day with the wind chill still well below zero on Friday afternoon, volunteer Debbie Dixon, a Ridgewater College freshman from Mahnomen, exercised Dublin, a three-year old pure bred Olde English Bulldogge, at the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter on the west side of Willmar.
