Blowing snow was causing white-out conditions Thursday morning along Business Highway 71 in north. The ice-covered roadway combined with the blowing snow made for hazardous driving conditions.

Road conditions deteriorated quickly on U.S. Highway 71 during the early afternoon Wednesday as heavy snow and wind made driving very challenging. Spin-outs were reported and visibility was near zero south of the Kandiyohi-Renville County line.

Minnesota Highway 23 between Willmar and Clara City remains closed to travel, and will remain closed through early morning, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. MnDOT recommends motorists continue to stay off state highways throughout much of southwest Minnesota overnight due to dangerous winter driving conditions and closed highways.

Plow trucks, emergency vehicles and tow trucks worked tirelessly throughout the day Sunday trying to keep roads as open as possible. Stuck vehicles hampered efforts as crews reported vehicles stacking up in troublesome areas.
