Willmar Police subdue man, take into custody after standoff at residence

Over 8 inches of rain water on Aug. 10, 2016, caused the Terraplane drainage pond in the Cambridge housing development on the east side of Willmar to flood. Last week the Willmar City Council approved a measure to fix the problem at the pond, and pay for it.

The massive holiday light display, once put on by the Chad Koosman family, will now belong to Willmar Fest. The hope is to give the lights new life as a holiday display at Robbins Island. Details of that are yet to be worked out.

Light decorations stand outside a garage at the Koosman family home in northeast Willmar Wednesday in preparation for the big move. The annual holiday display has grown to include more than 600,000 bulbs, featuring dancing trees, leaping arches, shooting stars, a sky-high cross, candy canes, reindeer and more. The light festival was open six weeks over the holiday season, from Thanksgiving through New Year's.

Two 40-foot trees, nearly four miles of extension cords and 350,00 lights light-up the Willmar home of Chad and Angie Koosman.  The Koosman's annual display raises money for the Salvation Army each year.  Their "Celebrate the Light of the World" display will be open from dusk until 11 p.m. every day through January 5th at 3903 60th Avenue button
