WILLMAR - Willmar goalie Savana Knutson posted her second-straight shutout and Serena Monson scored two goals as the Cardinals defeated Prairie Centre 4-0 in their final regular-season home game on Thursday at the Willmar Civic Center. Monson scored unassisted at 5:42 of the first period, and she made it 2-0 Cards with a goal 12 seconds into the second period on an assist from Hannah Kobienia. Bailey Olson upped the count to 3-0 with a goal about three minutes later on an assist from Mya Monson.
GLENWOOD — The Minnewaska boys basketball team got perhaps its biggest win of the season so far, holding BOLD 30 points under its season average in a 57-48 West Central Conference victory on Monday at Minnewaska High School. BOLD, which was scoring 77.9 points per game before Monday night, dropped out of a first-place tie with Melrose in the WCC and now is 5-1 in the league and 12-3 overall. Minnewaska improved to 4-2 in the WCC and 9-4 overall. The Lakers' win snapped BOLD's seven-game winning streak.
BIRD ISLAND — It wasn't the high scoring affair that they are used to, but the BOLD boys basketball found a way against Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Friday night. The Warriors used a stout defensive effort in the second half to down the Tigers 54-49 to improve to 6-2 on the year. Gavin Vosika finished with yet another double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead BOLD. Vosika toyed with a triple-double, adding seven assists in addition to his five steals. The Warriors trailed 31-30 at halftime before holding the Tigers to 18 second-half points.
WILLMAR — Willmar dominated the match early, recording pins in five pins in the first seven matches and subduing St. Cloud Tech 45-23 in a Central Lakes Conference match on Friday at the Willmar High School gym. Lincoln Shinn got a sudden-victory 4-2 win over Tech's Graham Nistler at 182 pounds and Andrew Reigstad, who had a few tough losses against Tech's Isaiah Green, turned the tables with a 9-3 win over Green at 220 pounds on Friday.
WILLMAR — Willmar won three pool matches and then downed Lakeview and BBE, both in two sets, to win the championship at the Willmar Invitational on Saturday at Willmar High School. Willmar didn't drop a set in Pool 1 matches against New London-Spicer, Albany and Benson. The Cardinals then downed Lakeview 25-23, 25-15 in their opening bracket match and Willmar defeated BBE 25-22, 25-17 in the title match. Willmar Invite Team scores Pool 1
