Shrimp farming on the prairie? Why not? Down in Balaton, south of Marshall, the “shrimp boats are coming.”  Tru Shrimp Systems reports on its website that it has accelerated commercialization of Tidal Basin technology and a state-of-the-art shrimp research center. The first round of engineering has been completed for a multi-million pound per year shrimp production facility. The research center is located in Balaton. The facility will include two commercial-scale Tidal Basin lines. It will also include 144 shrimp research tanks, 116 nursery holding tanks, an animal health laboratory and water quality and shrimp feed laboratories.Tru Shrimp Systems General Manager Michael Ziebell told about the innovation at the 2015 Animal Science Conference 2015 at the MinnWest Auditorium in Willmar on Sept. 24.
